St. Patrick's Day

Today I am talking about plans and décor for St. Patty's day!! Although some people might not think of it as a holiday, I'll take any excuse to day drink in the middle of winter!

This year it falls on Friday and we will be celebrating in Florida!!!!! WOOOO V A C A T I O N!! The green beer will be flowing for us come the 17th! Because we will be away, I will be keeping my décor simple, pulling out the tissue paper garland I made last year and I always love to frame a few seasonal prints.

Last year I was working afternoons on St. Patrick's day so I enjoyed lucky charms for breakfast to feel festive although I would have preferred a Guinness or some Bailey's.

I definitely need to try making some of these green goodies - perhaps next year!

We are so excited to enjoy some time away in the sunny south!! We are so lucky to have family there to stay with and we have lots on the agenda! Plans to go to the Clearwater Aquarium, support our local Blue Jays in Spring Training, catch a comedy show, enjoy a sunset cruise and my favourite, just sitting in the sun with a cocktail in hand!

I am so excited to celebrate St. Patrick's day in the sun instead of the snow this year! Lucky us :)

Valentine's Day + First Year of the Penny Drawer

Today is not only Valentine's Day but also one year since I launched the Penny Drawer! Happy Valentine's Day all & Happy Birthday to the Penny Drawer!!

I am so thrilled to have been blogging for a year now and want to thank you all for your love and support! I love being able to share my DIY projects and home décor with you all and hope to keep some exciting content coming. Later this week I hope to have a post up about my sister's winter wedding that took place this past Saturday. I will save all of the amazing details for a full post but needless to say it was AH-MAZING!!

I may not be the most consistent blogger and this is something I hope to improve over time. I work both a full and part time job in mental health which keeps me pretty busy but I hope to dedicate more time to projects and blogging going forward. I am also starting some in home consulting and will hopefully sell some of my DIY pieces locally so stay tuned :).

This year I really didn't do much for Valentine's decorating (like seriously, nothing) given our busy weekend with the wedding and just wanting to relax since we returned home. I did grab some valentine's mini cupcakes and wore my most festive pjs this morning. I am working afternoons this week so I didn't get to spend the evening with my Valentine's but we were happy to keep things low key this year.

Here is my Valentine's post from last year for some festive inspiration. Enjoy!!

Christmas Traditions

Today I am talking about Christmas traditions and my favourite things to do this time of year! We are only two sleeps away from Christmas and I have one day left of work before 7 glorious days of holidays!

I mentioned in a previous post that I have been blasting music since well before December 1st and I make an effort to watch a Christmas show or movie every night. My all time favourite Christmas movie is National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation (which I watched last night & always watch while I decorate my tree). My other favourites include Home Alone 1&2, the Santa Clause and the Family Stone (sob). I love enjoying the lights in our neighborhood each night when we walk Poppy, our neighbor has a wild display that people drive to our little village to see.

I am not usually a sweets person but I have definitely been indulging in hot chocolate and spiced eggnog on the regular!!And I finally got around to doing some Christmas baking. These sugar cookie bars and Christmas crack are AH-MAZING!! Last night I finally started my gift wrapping and tonight before people arrive I will hopefully complete the last of my Christmas cards and food prep for the weekend!

We will be busy for the next few days celebrating with family and friends. We are starting tonight by having friends over for appetizers and cocktails at our house. December has flown by so I haven't had an opportunity to host anything yet. We always spend Christmas eve at my parents so we will head there tomorrow to enjoy tons of awesome food, cocktails, board games and a lasagna dinner (my fav) !! We will spend the night and then head to TKs parents' on Christmas day for breakfast. As we have gotten older, we do less and less presents with family, it's more about spending time together. Later on Christmas day we have a turkey dinner with TK's extended family and then head back home to get together with friends. Boxing day we head back to my parents' to celebrate with my niece and nephew and exchange gifts. We are making a day of it again and ending with breakfast on the 27th. Then we have a party at our friend's who live down the street as well as our annual girls gift exchange. I am excited to share my DIY gift this year but have to wait until after the exchange!! And starting the 28th, we can relax for two days before I head back to work on the 31st:(

We have had two extended family Christmases already and as mentioned will spend the next couple of days back and forth between our family get togethers. Here are a few of my favourite Christmas appetizers I will be making this weekend;

I'm not going to lie, with Christmas just a few sleeps away, I have found myself feeling a little bit sad thinking about how soon it will be here and gone and I am not ready for my decorations and tree to come down!

Christmas is my favourite time of year and I am so excited to spend the next week celebrating, indulging in waaay to much food, too many cocktails and spending time with my favourite people!

Wishing you a very Merry Christmas & Happy New Year!!
